In a powerful tribute to those who served, the Honor Flight initiative continues to bring veterans to Washington, D.C. for a day of remembrance, gratitude, and connection. This national program offers American heroes the chance to visit the memorials built in their honor, often, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Recently, Scotlynn had the privilege of sponsoring one of these milestone flights, with Technical Training Specialist, Kohl joining as a guardian to provide personal support and companionship for the veteran throughout the day.
The Honor Flight Network is a nonprofit organization that transports veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to their service. Since 2005, over 317,000 veterans have participated through 128 active hubs across the country. Veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War are invited to join at no cost, thanks to donations and sponsorships.
Kohl’s grandfather, George —a 97-year-old World War II Air Force veteran—was among the honored participants, accompanied by Kohl’s older brother. Inspired by his grandfather’s legacy, Kohl volunteered as a guardian for Korean War veteran Harvey.
“I wanted to be part of something that honors the sacrifices of our veterans, especially knowing my grandfather was going to be there,” said Kohl.
The flight marked the 1,000th in Honor Flight history, carrying 73 veterans and their guardians. Upon arrival, the veterans were warmly welcomed by hundreds of volunteers. During their visit, they honored their service at several key landmarks, including the World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam Veterans Memorials. The group also spent time at the iconic Iwo Jima Memorial, the soaring Air Force Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery, where they paid their respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
“It was powerful to see these places through the eyes of the veterans,” Kohl shared. “Thank you to Scotlynn for sponsoring this experience. Having a company that supports initiatives aligned with my personal values is very special. This opportunity created a memory that will never be forgotten.”
Continuing the Mission
With over 46,000 veterans on the waitlist, the Honor Flight relies on volunteers and sponsors to continue its mission. Scotlynn’s support reflects a commitment to honoring those who served and a continued investment in meaningful community initiatives.
